A simple, effective, high heart rate, back-to-nature, summer workout is what I call the Trail Head Run… Walk, drive, or jog to a local trail head. Pick one with a long hill or at least some hills. After warming up, run at 80-95% max heart rate preferably up hill.
You only need to run hard uphill for 5-20 minutes for it to be an effective high intensity workout depending on your fitness level. Jog back down to the trail head to cool down. You can repeat as works for you.
Trails in the northwest are beautiful and full of oxygen rich air. The trail itself and the challenge of making it up the hill can be fun and motivational! High intensity exercise is very beneficial for strength and cardio vascular improvement. This workout done at a level appropriate for you will energize your day and help you eat better. Take plenty of clean water before and after. Make sure you are cleared by your doctor for high intensity exercise.
I just finished such a workout this morning. It really boosts my mind and body while I get my “nature fix”. See if it works for you…
Good day and good training!
